The Ides of Marriage: Ideals, Idle Time, and Idols

You are probably familiar with the Ides of March.  In the Roman calendar they split up each month into three sections.  Each month had the Kalends (1st of the month), Nones (5th to 7th day of the month), and the Ides (13th to 15th day of the month corresponding to the full moon).  So, each day in a month was defined in relation to one of these three days.  So, after Kalends in March, the next day would be something like VI Nones, V Nones, IV Nones until you get to Nones.  Then you would have a similar countdown...

Why Do We Argue?

A wife asks a simple question.  Maybe something like, “Could you finish that work on the deck soon?” Her husband responds, “I will see if I can get to it,…maybe this weekend.” Things probably would have been fine at this point, but then the wife feels the need to respond back with something like, “You know, it would make me much happier if you could just finish your projects when you start them.  You always leave your tools out everywhere and that is embarrassing.” Her husband feels a bit taken aback but manages to reply back, “I will try...

How Can I Know God’s Will for Me?

How Can I Know God’s Will for Me?

Photo by Jurica Koletić on Unsplash Sometimes, I think that we tend to assume that the most important things about God’s will are the external things. The decisions we make about who to marry, what job to take, what house to buy, what school the kids should attend, etc… But it is my belief that […]

How Can I Find God’s Will for Me?

How Can I Find God’s Will for Me?

Sometimes, I think that we tend to assume that the most important things about God’s will are the external things. The decisions we make about who to marry, what job to take, what house to buy, etc… But it is my belief that those things, though important, are quite secondary in God’s eyes to the […]
